Signing of the fourth action plan for cooperation 2024/2027 between Morocco and the United States of America in the fields of environment and sustainable development✍️๐๐๐
The fourth action plan for cooperation 2024-2027 between Morocco and the United States of America in the fields of environment and sustainable development was signed today, Wednesday in Rabat.
This plan, signed by the Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Leila Benali, and the Ambassador of the United States of America to Morocco, Puneet Talwar, aims to strengthen the measures that were implemented in partnership with the American side, and to contribute to achieving the national goals stipulated in the National Strategy for Sustainable Development and the new development model.
This plan, signed by the Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Leila Benali, and the Ambassador of the United States of America to Morocco, Puneet Talwar, aims to strengthen the measures that were implemented in partnership with the American side, and to contribute To achieve the national goals stipulated in the National Strategy for Sustainable Development and the new development model.
This action plan will be implemented in consultation with the relevant ministerial sectors that contributed to its development, in particular the water, fishing, water and forest sectors, as well as with the participation of a number of US agencies concerned with environmental protection and sustainable development, such as the US Environment Agency and the US Oceanic and Atmospheric Monitoring Agency. Through joint projects and programmes, enhancing technical assistance, capacity building, technology transfer and exchange of experiences and best practices.
In a statement to the press, Minister Benali said that the signing of the fourth action plan between Morocco and the United States of America in the fields of environment and sustainable development will enable the strengthening of relations between the two parties in many fields, especially sustainable development, the environment, energy transition, and biodiversity, through Promoting areas of training, and involving civil society and the population in environmental projects, which are considered important projects.
The Minister highlighted that this partnership will contribute significantly to finding solutions to a range of challenges related to water scarcity and green hydrogen, especially in light of Morocco’s involvement in a number of important structural projects.
For his part, the American ambassador to Morocco, in a similar statement, noted the “very close” partnership relations between his country and the Kingdom, praising the role played by Morocco “as a pioneering country in the field of renewable energies.”
Ambassador Puneet Talwar explained that “this action plan is precise and detailed and will concern several areas,” especially with regard to implementing environmental laws and preserving biodiversity by protecting endangered species, combating pollution, and improving air quality, stressing the importance of involving citizens in implementing these initiatives.
It should be noted that the free trade agreement signed between the two countries in 2004 and entered into force on January 1, 2006, strengthened bilateral cooperation in all sectors of economic activity.
In parallel with the Free Trade Agreement, a joint declaration of cooperation between the two parties in the field of the environment was signed in 2004.
Within the framework of implementing this declaration, action plans were developed by the environmental working group that was established for this purpose. In this context, three action plans were signed and implemented between 2005 and 2017.
