The King Mohammed VI, President of the Supreme Council of the Judiciary, received three new members of the council on Monday at the Royal Palace in Rabat.
These include Mr. Hicham Blaoui, whom the King graciously appointed as Attorney General at the Court of Cassation, President of the Public Prosecution Office, and member of the Supreme Council of the Judiciary; Mr. Hassan Tariq, who was appointed as a member of the Supreme Council of the Judiciary in his capacity as Ombudsman for the Kingdom; and Mr. Farid El Bacha, whom the King graciously appointed as a member of the Supreme Council of the Judiciary.
On this occasion, the new members of the Supreme Council of the Judiciary were sworn in before the King.
The reception was attended by Mr. Mohamed Abdennabaoui, President-Delegate of the Supreme Council of the Judiciary.
The Supreme Council of the Judiciary, chaired by His Majesty the King, ensures the implementation of the guarantees granted to judges, particularly with regard to their independence, appointment, promotion, retirement, and discipline.
The Supreme Council of the Judiciary, on its own initiative, prepares reports on the state of the judiciary and the justice system and issues appropriate recommendations thereon. At the request of His Majesty the King, the Government, or Parliament, the Supreme Council of the Judiciary issues detailed opinions on any matter related to justice, taking into account the principle of separation of powers.
In accordance with the provisions of Article 115 of the Constitution, the Supreme Council of the Judiciary shall consist of the First President of the Court of Cassation as its President-Delegate, the Public Prosecutor at the Court of Cassation, the President of the First Chamber of the Court of Cassation, four representatives of the judges of the Courts of Appeal, elected from among themselves by these judges, and six representatives of the judges of the Courts of First Instance, elected from among themselves by these judges.
The matter also concerns the mediator, the president of the National Human Rights Council, and five individuals appointed by His Majesty the King, known for their competence, impartiality, integrity, and outstanding contributions to the independence of the judiciary and the rule of law.
