The Ministry of Health and Social Protection, within the framework of its communication policy with all male and female citizens, announced the rise in measles cases in our country in a global context characterized by significant increases in the number of cases and their spread around the world, including European and African countries, the United States of America, and other regions of the world.

The Ministry explained in a report, a copy of which was received by Najibpress today, that a noticeable increase in the number of measles cases has been observed nationally since mid-September 2023 in the Souss-Massa region in particular. Immediately after that, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, through its regional and regional departments, took a set of field measures by strengthening epidemiological monitoring activities and vaccination campaigns, which made it possible to contain the speed of its spread, and this is what made the cases recorded in recent weeks concentrated in the regions of Taroudant and Chtouka Ait Baha.

According to the same report, field epidemiological investigations concluded that there was a decrease in demand for vaccination in a group of population centers, which contributed to the spread of the virus and the emergence of hotspots of disease cases.

The Ministry of Health and Social Protection said that vaccination is the most effective way to prevent many infectious diseases, including measles, calling on mothers and fathers to adhere to the vaccination schedule approved within the framework of the National Immunization Program, which includes two doses against measles in the ninth and eighteenth months.

The Ministry also advises the need to go to the nearest health institution in cases of symptoms of the disease (skin rash with fever) to receive appropriate treatment and avoid complications, explaining that the Ministry of Health and Social Protection will provide, through the network of primary health institutions in the various regions and prefectures of the Kingdom, the vaccine service for free, as the program promises The National Immunization Program is one of the Ministry’s priority programmes.
