Under the high instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan and Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Khadija supervised, today, Monday, in the Bouregreg district (Youssoufieh district) in Rabat, the launching of the national operation “Ramadan 1446”, which is organized by the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan, benefiting one million families, or about 5 million people.

This generous initiative with strong symbolism in this holy month, which has become an annual tradition for more than 25 years of organization, reflects the royal care extended to people in a situation of social vulnerability, and also comes to consecrate the values of humanity, solidarity, synergy and sharing that characterize Moroccan society.

The “Ramadan 1446” operation, for which a total financial cover of 330 million dirhams was allocated, aims to distribute 34,280 tons of food supplies (flour, milk, rice, oil, sugar, tomato concentrate, pastries, lentils and tea), with the aim of providing assistance and support to the most vulnerable social groups, especially widows, elderly people and people with special needs.

For this version, 74 percent of the beneficiary families live in the rural area, distributed among 1,054 groups out of a total of 1,304 targeted groups throughout the national territory.

In implementation of the Royal directives, this year’s edition features, for the first time, the use of the Unified Social Register to update the lists of families benefiting from food support from the Ministry of Interior.

This national information system was created by the Ministry of the Interior in order to enable social support programs to determine the eligibility and entitlement of families, according to objective socio-economic criteria.

The national operation “Ramadan 1446”, organized with financial support from the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, is fully consistent with the humanitarian program implemented by the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, which aims to provide support to those most in need and promote a culture of solidarity.

In order to ensure the good progress of this process, thousands of people were mobilized, supported by social workers and volunteers at the approved distribution points nationwide.
