The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development, Water and Forests, Mohamed Sadiki, stated today, Monday, in the House of Representatives, that expectations for the supply of sacrificial animals reach 7.8 million heads, including 6.8 heads of sheep and one million heads of goats, according to a “accurate assessment” carried out by the ministry in coordination with Professionals.


Minister Sadiki added, in his response during the oral question session to three questions about “Eid Al-Adha,” that the demand for sacrifices is estimated at about 6 million heads, including 5.4 million heads of sheep (81 percent sheep and 19 percent lambs) and 600 sheep. Thousands of goats, indicating that the number of sheep and goats prepared for sacrifice has reached 4.8 million to date.


Regarding the imported sheep destined for sacrifice, the same source highlighted that they have reached 220,000 heads today, expected to reach 250,000 heads within the next two days, with a view to reaching 600,000 heads.


Sadiki explained that the measure to support the import of sheep destined for sacrifice at a value of 500 dirhams per head, starting from March 15 until June 15 of the current year, “is an exceptional and temporary measure aimed at preserving the national herd and stabilizing prices.”


Based on statistics related to the national herd last month, the government official reported that the total sheep herd amounted to 20.3 million heads, which represents a 2 percent decrease compared to last year, while the goat herd reached 5.4 million heads, representing a 4 percent decrease compared to the previous year. Last year.


During his presentation of the procedures related to preparing for Eid al-Adha, the minister highlighted that 214,000 units related to raising and fattening sheep and goats destined for Eid have been registered, within the framework of conducting “field data and establishing a ruler to track the path.”


When addressing the procedures related to the health aspect of the herd, the Minister recorded that the number of monitoring operations of feed and used veterinary medicines carried out by the National Office for Health Safety of Food Products has reached 2,015 monitoring operations to date, noting that 3 reports of violations related to the illegal sale of veterinary medicines have been recorded. In each of El Jadida, Khemisset and Marrakesh, in addition to one report related to the seizure of 13 tons of animal feed that did not meet specifications in Beni Mellal.


Regarding monitoring the transportation of poultry waste through the issuance of a prior license, my friend explained that 950 passes were granted, and 4 reports were registered regarding the seizure and destruction of poultry waste, relating to 10 tons in Sidi Ifni, and 24 tons in El Sraghna Castle.


As for the logistical aspect, the Minister confirmed that 34 temporary markets for Eid sacrifices had been established and equipped nationwide to enhance existing markets, in coordination with local authorities.
