On Wednesday evening, the Maarif district organized the inauguration ceremony of the first electronic games center in Casablanca at the Zafzaf Cultural Complex, in a new step aimed at promoting creative and digital industries in the economic capital.
The creation of this center falls within the framework of a partnership agreement concluded between the Casablanca community, the Casablanca Events and Animation Company, and the Royal Moroccan Federation of Electronic Games.
In a speech on the occasion, the head of the Maarif district council, Abdel Sadek Murshed, explained that “the first electronic games center was launched within the framework of an agreement under which the Casablanca Events and Animation Company commits to creating 16 similar centers in various districts of the city of Casablanca, in partnership with and under the technical supervision of the Royal Moroccan Federation of Electronic Games.”
Murshid confirmed in a statement to the press that the goal of this project “is not limited to entertainment only,” but also includes forming professional teams on “console” and computer devices, and creating a local league dedicated to this field.
The same official noted the significant boom that esports is experiencing globally, and the important financial returns it generates, highlighting that this sector has moved “from being merely a means of entertainment to a field that creates real added value.”
He added that this center aims to bring together the growing number of electronic game enthusiasts, by providing an organized space that enables them to train, develop their skills, and achieve self-realization.
He pointed out that the project also falls within the city’s direction to diversify the offerings aimed at the youth category, and to support emerging talents in the field of electronic sports.
