Today, Thursday, in Laayoune, a twinning agreement was signed between the Laayoune Community and the city of Arlington, Texas (United States of America), with the aim of strengthening bilateral cooperation in many areas of common interest.
This agreement, which falls within the framework of decentralized cooperation between Morocco and the United States, was signed by the president of the communal council of the city of Laayoune, Moulay Hamdi Ould Errachid, and the mayor of the city of Arlington, Jim Ross, at the headquarters of the Laayoune commune, in the presence of the governor of the Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra region, governor of the Laayoune region, Abdel Salam Bakrat, and the President of the Regional Council, Sidi Hamdi Ould Errachid, And Mayor of Columbus (Ohio) Andrew Ginther, who also serves as President of the United States Mayors Conference, in addition to a number of local elected representatives.
Following the signing ceremony of this document, Mr. Ross stressed that “the agreement aims to strengthen cooperative relations for the well-being of both communities, through economic, educational and cultural exchanges.”
In the same context, he said that he was “very impressed” by the quality of Laayoune’s infrastructure, noting that the two cities share common interests within a framework of mutual understanding.
The Mayor of Arlington also expressed his desire to strengthen bilateral relations, expressing his optimism about developing this cooperation in the future.
For his part, Mr. Ould Rachid indicated that this twinning agreement comes after the United States’ decision to recognize Morocco’s sovereignty over its desert and territorial integrity, recalling that the matter relates to the second agreement to be signed after the one signed in May of last year with the city of Hollywood in the state. He also expressed his desire to establish mutually beneficial relations in the cultural, economic and political fields.
According to this document, the two parties agreed to strengthen cooperation and partnership relations, especially in the economic, cultural, artistic, educational, tourism and environmental sectors.
