The Minister in charge of relations with Parliament, the official spokesman for the government, Mustafa baytas, said on Thursday that the government is working to find innovative solutions to manage water resources in the agricultural sector, due to the significant decline in rainfall in recent years.


The Minister baytas, in his response to a question regarding reconsidering agricultural policy against the backdrop of water scarcity, during a press conference following the weekly meeting of the Government Council, explained that alternative solutions to the water used in the agricultural sector must be considered to ensure the intensification of production and its provision at reasonable prices, as well as the preservation of Job opportunities in the rural world, considering that the discussion about water exploitation in this sector must be deliberate, as “it is not possible to talk about agriculture without water.”


The same spokesman confirmed that the government has taken several measures to confront the major challenges posed by the significant decline in rainfall, including the creation in 2026 of a water basin in the Dakhla region, irrigated with treated water, after the success of the experience of the irrigated basin in Souss, which contributed to maintaining production. The minister stated that the water allocated for agriculture has decreased significantly in recent years, which prompted the government to take a set of urgent measures.
