King Mohammed VI received, today, Thursday, at the Royal Palace in Rabat, the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Spain, Pedro Sanchez, who is on a working visit to Morocco.

The following is the text of the Royal Court’s statement, which we will publish for you as it is:

His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God grant him victory, received today at the Royal Palace in Rabat, His Excellency Mr. Pedro Sanchez, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Spain, who is on a working visit to Morocco.

This visit falls within the framework of the continuity of the dynamic launched by the new phase of bilateral relations, which was inaugurated since the meeting between His Majesty, may God bless him, and the Prime Minister of Spain in April 2022, which culminated in the adoption of the joint statement between the two countries.

This dynamic continues in a satisfying manner. It is characterized by enhancing cooperation, coordination and partnership in all fields based on the principles of trust, mutual respect, ambition, good neighborliness and fulfillment of commitments.

On the occasion of this reception, the Head of the Spanish Government, His Majesty the King, may God protect him, reaffirmed Spain’s position contained in the joint statement of April 2022, which considers the Moroccan autonomy initiative as the most serious, realistic and credible basis for settling this dispute. His Majesty the King expressed his thanks to Spain for this new constructive and important position.

During this reception, His Majesty the King, may God grant him victory, and His Excellency Mr. Pedro Sanchez, emphasized the unique prospects for cooperation open to the two neighboring countries, which the joint organization - with Portugal - of the 2030 FIFA World Cup represents an additional lever to strengthen.

The Spanish Prime Minister expressed his praise and emphasis on Spain’s interest in the strategic initiatives launched by His Majesty the King, may God grant him victory, especially the initiative of the African countries overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, the royal initiative to enhance the access of the Sahel countries to the Atlantic Ocean, as well as the Africa-Atlantic Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline.

This reception was attended, on the Spanish side, by Mr. José Manuel Albarez, Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, and by Ms.Emma Barici, Secretary General for Foreign Affairs of the Spanish Government, and on the Moroccan side by Mr. Fouad Ali El Himma, Advisor to His Majesty, and Mr. Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs. Upon his arrival at the Royal Palace, the Spanish Prime Minister reviewed a group of the Royal Guard who saluted him, before offering him dates and milk in keeping with authentic Moroccan traditions.
