The Ministry of Interior warns Moroccans of a "locust outbreak" and calls on them to increase their levels of vigilance and preparedness✍️👇👇👇
The Ministry of Interior confirmed on Saturday that all relevant sectors and competent authorities are working to monitor developments related to the spread of locusts in some neighboring countries, particularly in the Sahel region and northwest Africa, with the accompanying possibility of some swarms moving north. They are working to raise the level of vigilance, mobilization, and preparedness to confront all challenges related to the spread of this type of insect.
The ministry explained, in a statement, a copy of which was obtained by NajibPressEng today, that swarms of these locusts were recently detected, on a limited scale and in limited numbers, in some areas of the southeast of the Kingdom, which necessitated the adoption of the necessary preventive measures to address all possible developments.
The same statement noted that while the situation remains under control and not a cause for concern at the present time, as part of a series of proactive and reactive measures, command centers have been reactivated in all the affected regions with the aim of monitoring the development of the situation and taking the necessary measures, including mobilizing all resources, All means should be placed on alert for intervention when necessary, and intervention teams should be formed to carry out reconnaissance, monitoring, and locust control operations, equipped with machinery, equipment, and pesticides, while all logistical means, including air, should be utilized.
In this regard, the Ministry added, it is imperative to ensure that sufficient stocks of pesticides are available to address any emergency, while intervention teams take all necessary precautions to protect ecosystems, preserve the biodiversity of natural environments, and conserve their water, plant, and animal resources.
The ministry stressed that all relevant departments and sectors will continue to be mobilized to enhance tracking, reconnaissance, and monitoring operations, particularly in areas experiencing natural locust clusters, and to take all necessary measures to limit their spread and eradicate them.
